About Kairos Prison Ministry

“. . . I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:36

The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women, youth, and their families to become loving and productive citizens of their communities. Kairos Prison Ministry is a Christian faith-based ministry that addresses the spiritual needs of incarcerated men, women, youth, and their families. By sharing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, Kairos hopes to change hearts, transform lives, and impact the world. KPMI sprang from the Cursillo movement and is supported by volunteers from the 4th Day movements such as Cursillo, National Episcopal Cursillo, Presbyterian Cursillo, Lutheran Via de Cristo, The Upper Room's Walk to Emmaus, and independently ecumenical Tres Dias, as well as volunteers from independent and non-denominational churches.

As a ministry, Kairos embraces a diverse group of volunteers working together to fulfill Christ's call to action in Matthew 25:36. KPMI is a ministry of the church ... a ministry of the apostles whom Jesus, the Christ, has called into community and sent forth into the environment of the correctional institution. KPMI has been called the best example of the early church in existence today. Men’s and Women’s Kairos Weekends are held annually in the spring and fall. Team meetings are organized to foster fellowship and prepare for the four-day weekend, during which volunteers from DSMC and churches in Dripping Springs, as well as from all over Texas, will serve.   Wonderful fellowship and friendships are formed.

The Kairos program incorporates a curriculum designed to build and encourage pro-social character and behavior. Society spends over $100 billion/yr to keep 3.3 million inmates incarcerated; the Kairos program is offered at no cost to State and Federal Institutions. One Kairos participant said... "it cost the government $1 million to keep me locked up, and a $100 program from Kairos set me free".  KPMI is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit corporation.

The word Kairos is a Greek word meaning in God's Special Time or the Fullness of Time, indicating an opportunity for our participants and guests to reconsider their life choices - as hearts are changed, inmates begin to take responsibility for their actions - it's like a front-row seat at a miracle - transforming lives and impacting the world.

Get Involved with Kairos: Transform Lives with God's Love

A powerful way to experience Kairos is by attending the Closing Ceremony, held on the last day of each Kairos weekend. Witness the transformative love of God as participants share how the weekend has touched their lives—it’s truly the beginning of a new chapter for them. The joy and celebration fill the room, and the presence of the Holy Spirit is felt everywhere.

Volunteer for a Kairos Weekend

Dripping Springs Methodist Church serves in the Men's Alfred D. Hughes Unit and the Women's Dr. Lane Murray Unit. If you'd like to serve on a Kairos weekend, we welcome you to get involved! Volunteering gives you the chance to share Christ's love with those who need it most.

Support Kairos Through Prayer

One of the most impactful ways you can support Kairos is through prayer. We invite you to pray for both the team entering the prison and the inmates participating in the weekend by adding your name to the prayer chain that is presented and displayed during the Kairos weekend. This has a profound effect on all participants in the Kairos weekend.
